About Me

A native of Portland, OR, David Minnieweather started building custom basses for himself in the 9th grade. Since those early days David's skills as a woodworker have increased exponentially. After doing a few one-offs for friends, he decided to get serious about his basses and built 30 or so instruments through the 1990s. In 2006 David Minnieweather has a complete product line incorporating traditional 4, 5, 6, and 7 string basses in several body styles as well as extended range instruments with 9 and 10 strings. David has also been making a line of 4 string electric "Meko" uprights since the mid 1990s.

With 30 years experience as a Bassist, David has played for artists such as "The Legendary Shirley Caesar" and opened up for gospel legends "The Winans" and "Commissioned" (with the great Fred Hammond on bass) just to name a few. David brings a unique insight to bass building from his many years of playing. Combining a true passion for the bass as a player, while striving for great looks, feel, and sound, as a luthier. David credits much of his success to a select number of the Portland Oregon luthiers where he was "born" through their knowledge, friendship, and mastery as luthiers.
